Game 1; Sox 5 – Rays 1
The Sox were able to continue their dominance of David Price as they scored 3 runs on 9 hits vs. the Rays Ace. Juan Pierre continued his hot start going 3/5. Rios continued to pick it up, with 2 hits in the Home Opener, now going 6/16 in his last 3 games. Edwin Jackson was the man on this day pitching excellent going 8 strong innings surrendering 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 13, a career high, also the highest for a Sox home opener. Santos went one inning striking out 1.
Game 2; Rays 9 – Sox 7
Everything seemed to be going right for the Sox as they had scored 3 runs in the first 3 innings and John Danks was cruising along, with some run support. Paul Konerko went 2/3 with his 7th consecutive game with an RBI, Gordon Beckham raised his average to .355 with a 3/5 day scoring twice and fill in DH Mark Teahen went ¾ with 3 RBIs. Things started to fall apart in the 9th as defensive miscues by Juan Pierre and Alexei Ramirez set up the 3 run Homer by Dan Johnson to put the Rays up for good.
Game 3; Sox 4 – Rays 2
Philip Humber lead the Sox to victory with his first win of the year as the White Sox defeated the Rays 4-2. Humber was solid going 6 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks and struck out 4. The bullpen was able to hold the lead finally as Ohman, Santos and Sale each pitched an inning with the only run coming on Felipe Lopez solo shot off Sale. Sale earned his first Save of the year striking out one. Brent Morel and AJ each had 2 hits and Konerko continued his 8 game hitting streak going 1/4 scoring twice.
Game 4; Sox 6 – Rays 1
Pauly hit 2 homers to pace the Sox to victory. Gavin Floyd was very solid going 8 innings giving up 4 hits and one unearned run while striking out 8 and walking 1. The Sox scored 6 but needed only 2 to beat the Rays. The big drama in this one was Joe Maddon being ejected in the top of the 5th. Dan Johnson was originally called safe on a grounder to the right side. The umpires ruled that Gavin bobbled the ball on the toss from Gordon which was overturned after a conference. Maddon also ejected all the umpires.
