In a move that wasn’t surprising to many, Kahlil Bell has been waived. With Lorenzo Bookers’ skills on the rise, Bell immediately became expendable. I foresaw his release but didn’t think we would see it this early in the pre-season. I expected him to be one of the last few to not make the team.
According to a tweet from its official Twitter account, the Chicago Bears have released veteran running back Kahlil Bell.
The 29-year-old Bell, who spent the last three seasons in Chicago, also tweeted a farewell to Chicago fans, saying: “Thank u for all the love and support Chicago. It’s been a great ride. The windy city is truly an amazing place and I will miss y’all!!”
He also tweeted, “Hopefully I’ll get a chance to see u during the season!”
In 20 games with the Bears, Bell rushed for 557 yards on 119 carries, good for a 6.0 yard-per-carry average. He also caught 20 passes for 137 yards, including a touchdown.
Multiple sources are reporting that Bell was asked to take a $500,000 pay cut to stay with the team, but declined to do so, prompting his release.
