The Chicago Bulls could be very busy at the NBA Trade Deadline next month. And that could include star guard Jimmy Butler.
K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune is reporting that NBA executives think the Bulls and Celtics will connect again and re-open talks on a deal involving Jimmy Butler.
Here’s what Johnson wrote:
“There are rival executives who believe the Bulls and Celtics will rekindle trade talks centered on Jimmy Butler before the Feb. 23 deadline,” the Chicago Tribune’s K.C. Johnson wrote. “The teams held serious talks in June, and the Celtics own the same assets — Jae Crowder, Marcus Smart, the Nets’ first-round picks in 2017 and 2018 — the teams discussed then.”
The Bulls and Celtics were in talks regarding Butler in June. A report from last year also stated that the Bulls turned down a deal from the Celtics early in 2016.
Chicago is reeling and has had some drama in the locker room as of late. It’s a complete disaster inside the organization right now, so if a full rebuild is coming it will likely include Butler moving on.
The 27-year-old Butler has been fantastic this season, averaging 24.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. The problem is that Chicago is in no position to make a run at the NBA title in the immediate future.
Boston on the other hand has the talent to compete and be a top team in the East.
Point guard Isaiah Thomas has been a scoring machine and Al Horford is a nice piece in the paint. Adding Butler moves the needle for the Celtics.
Whatever happens come the deadline on Feb. 23 should be interesting.
