The Chicago Bulls pretty much took themselves out of position to sign one of the big free agent prizes this Summer in Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving when they traded for Otto Porter and his contract. With the move, Chicago doesn’t have any room to offer a max contract.
But that doesn’t mean they won’t make any moves.
The Bulls will roughly have about $24M in free cap space after clearing $3M from Omer Asik’s contract on Wednesday. Chicago could decide to stand pat in free agency and maybe dabble with a few small contracts. Or they could go and land a solid role player like Julius Randle.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania wrote on Wednesday that the Bulls are one of the teams that will express interest in Randle after he declined his player option with New Orleans:
The Bulls are expected to express early interest in free-agent forward Julius Randle, league sources said. Randle is expected to receive interest from several teams, including the Knicks and Nets, according to sources.
The Bulls have also been linked to Milwaukee’s Malcolm Brogdon via Zach Lowe and Brian Windhorst on a recent NBA Podcast. Those two have been the most talked about additions to the Bulls this free agency.
