There’s been some speculation that wide receiver Brandon Marshall could be moved this off-season by the Chicago Bears. Now that rumor is starting to heat up.
The Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs is reporting that the Bears are exploring trade options for Marshall. The 31-year-old’s base salary of $7.5 million for 2015 will become fully guaranteed on March 12.
Here’s what Biggs says in the article:
The Chicago Bears declined to commit to Brandon Marshall when asked about the veteran wide receiver last month and now the team is exploring trade options five days before the open of the new league year.
One NFL source said the Bears are shopping Marshall with the idea of moving him. Another source said his belief is the team is taking calls in regard to Marshall. Either way, trades cannot be finalized until 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Reports stated that the Bears front office became frustrated last year with Marshall’s off the field duties. He flew into New York every week to record Inside the NFL and hosted a press conference when management suggested he shouldn’t.
With free agency beginning March 10, the Bears could have a deal in place for Marshall before then. If they move on without Marshall this season, Alshon Jeffery will step into the number one receiver slot.
Marshall holds the records for most receptions in a season by a Bears player as well as most receiving yards in a season.
