The Chicago Bulls have been identified as one of a few teams who are interested in Sacramento’s DeMarcus Cousins according to a report by Sheridan Hoops.
Michael Scotto reports the Bulls have contacted the Kings about Cousins but the team has no plans to trade him just yet according to his sources. That could change however as the Kings are near the bottom of the Western Conference and despite having talent, likely won’t make the playoffs.
Joining the Bulls in pursuit of Cousins includes the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat, but Chicago might have the pieces to do do it as Scotto writes:
As for Chicago, the Bulls are loaded with expendable frontcourt talent. Joakim Noah’s $13.4 million expiring contract and Taj Gibson are available, along with a young asset or draft pick. With former first-round pick Bobby Portis stuck behind a crowded frontcourt, Chicago is looking to clear a path for him to play more, one source said.
The Bulls would be an interesting spot for Cousins to land as they have struggled putting together a lineup that works with Pau Gasol and Joakim Noah. But Cousins is arguably the best center in the game and brings a scoring option to the Bulls, which is something they need.
Cousins is currently averaging 25.2 points and 10.6 rebounds per game this season. His production is needed in Chicago as they are struggling to find consistent scoring options outside of guard Jimmy Butler.
Expect the Cousins talk to heat up when the NBA trade deadline approaches in February.
