While the major rumor surrounding the Chicago Cubs involves shortstop Manny Machado, another trade possibility could be for a starting pitcher.
Just a day after Jon Heyman reported that the Cubs will make Machado their main target, the team was listed as one of the top destinations for Texas Rangers’ starting pitcher Cole Hamels. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal wrote on the Rangers’ during his Friday column saying that the team is now “open for business” and willing to deal players.
One of those players that will likely be dealt is Hamels who has one year left on his deal at $20 million and has a $6 million buyout in 2019.
USA Today writer Bob Nightengale then took to Twitter to list five teams that are the most-likely to land Hamels once he’s traded. Nightengale listed the Cubs among those five:

Hamels has made 9 starts this season, going 2-4 with a 3.48 ERA while dealing with a neck injury this year. The 34-year-old will almost certainly be dealt before the deadline and teams will be interested.
From a Cubs standpoint, it would be interesting to see if they would look to add another starter especially with the struggles that Yu Darvish has had early on this season. It’s something to certainly monitor.
