Since the Ricketts family bought the Chicago Cubs in 2009, a lot has changed around the Wrigleyville area.
There have been renovations to the ballpark, a hotel across the street, a new apartment complex nearby and even the construction of Gallagher Way. The area has certainly transformed over the years and there is no telling when it will slow down.
The latest report on a possible addition to Wrigley Field however comes just a few weeks after the Illinois legislature passed SB 690, authorizing regulated sports betting. The bill is still waiting for Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s signature which shouldn’t be a problem. But on Saturday, a new report from ESPN’s David Purdum suggests the Cubs could bring a sportsbook to historic Wrigley Field:
The Chicago Cubs have considered opening a sportsbook at Wrigley Field and at locations just outside of the Friendly Confines, multiple sources familiar with the team’s thinking told ESPN.

The article not only mentions betting windows and kiosks but even a full sportsbook to go into Wrigley Field. He also noted that the Cubs did not comment and there are no official plans but just preliminary discussions.
MLB does prohibit sportsbooks inside stadiums but the Cubs could use something like Gallagher Way as an option.
The new legislation would not only bring a potential sportsbook to Wrigley Field but Solider Field, Guaranteed Rate Field and the United Center could explore the opportunities to expand in the sports betting market.
