UPDATE: The Chicago Cubs are sending infielder Andruw Monasterio to the Nationals for Murphy per Carrie Muskat.
News broke Tuesday that three Washington Nationals players, Bryce Harper, Daniel Murphy and Matt Adams, have all been claimed off of waivers by unknown teams. Hours later, it was reported that the Chicago Cubs were the team to claim Murphy.
MLB reporter Craig Mish broke the news Tuesday afternoon, tweeting out that the Cubs were indeed the team to claim Murphy and there is a trade in the works as we speak:
Source indicates the Chicago Cubs claimed Daniel Murphy from the Nationals. Working out a deal.

That was later confirmed by ESPN Chicago reporter Jesse Rogers as the infielder is likely heading to the Cubs very soon.
The 33-year-old Murphy has missed most of the season recovering from knee surgery but has been hot of late. In 205 plate appearances, Murphy is slashing .300/.341/.442 with 6 home runs and 29 RBI’s. While Murphy’s defense is shaky, his offense should be a big boost to the Cubs lineup which has seen its share of struggles recently.
There is no word on whether or not the deal is official and what player is heading to Washington. We will update as soon as it becomes official.
