The Chicago Cubs missed out on Shohei Ohtani who decided to sign with the Los Angeles Angels. But they have their sights set on another pitcher according to a report.
MLB.com’s Phil Rogers is reporting that the Cubs have their eyes on a pair of Tampa Bay Rays pitchers this free agency. The tweet states that the Cubs seem likely to pursue Rays ace Chris Archer and closer Alex Colome.
#Cubs seem likely to pursue #Rays closer Alex Colome and ace Chris Archer. Getting both would take a monster return, however. It's going to be a fun week at Winter Meetings.

Rogers also says in the tweet that both players would be a monster haul of prospects going back to the Rays, meaning the Cubs would have to part ways with at least one of their young stars.
If Theo Epstein and company are ready to part ways with a young start, then this might be the time to do it. Archer is a legit ace that could instantly improve the Cubs rotation.
Colome would be the closer the Cubs are looking for after losing Wade Davis.
Whatever happens, the talk at the Winter Meetings this week will be very interesting.
