The city of Chicago was awarded the NFL Draft in 2015 and 2016, now it’s getting the 2017 NHL Draft.
Chicago has officially turned into Draft Town.
The NHL is expected to announce on Thursday that the city of Chicago will host the 2017 NHL Draft. The announcement will take place at the United Center and will feature members of the Chicago Blackhawks front office, Mayor Rahm Emmanuel and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
During it’s 53 years of the annual draft, it has never been held in the city of Chicago, until now. The draft spent 21 years in Montreal before moving to Toronto in 1985. The move will now leave the New York Rangers as the only member of the Original Six to not have hosted the draft.
Many have speculated what the announcement could be but with the brass attending the meeting, ESPN is confirming it’s for the draft.
