Some of the biggest news that has broken during the 2017 Winter Meetings in Orlando was that the Baltimore Orioles were listening to offers for third baseman Manny Machado.
Machado wants to play shortstop and the Orioles could grant his wish by trading him to another team, more specifically a team seeking a star player and ready to start winning.
Could that team be the Chicago White Sox? Well, it’s certainly looking that way.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the White Sox have been the most aggressive suitor for Machado. Here’s what he said on the situation early Thursday morning:
In a surprising turn of events, the rebuilding Chicago White Sox emerged Wednesday as the most aggressive suitor for Orioles third baseman Manny Machado, according to major-league sources.
The report goes on to say that the White Sox would want to likely re-sign Machado before he becomes a free agent after next season. Rosenthal also mentions the possibility that they could sign and then flip him to a contender like the New York Yankees.
As for what the White Sox will have to give up? Well, both Lucas Giolito and Michael Kopech were mentioned. The package would be centered around one of those pitchers but not both of them.
The #Whitesox not only have made a strong bid for #Orioles 3B Manny Machado, but actually have made the best offer of the dozen offers the Orioles have received

Rick Hahn has built the best farm system in baseball to this point so trading away two valuable assets is highly unlikely.
Keep an eye on this situation as the Winter Meetings continue this week.
