The Chicago Cubs are in the market for another starting pitcher and there hasn’t been a ton of movement on both free agents Yu Darvish or Jake Arrieta recently.
But there is always the trade route.
It was reported that the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians had discussed a deal that would involve starter Danny Salazar. Now, a few weeks later it appears as if the Indians are serious about trading him.
According to a report from The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Indians are willing to move the 27-year-old.
Rosenthal details the Indians decision in his latest piece for The Athletic. It’s also very possible the Cubs are still interested in acquiring him from the Indians.
Chicago has Jon Lester, Kyle Hendricks, Jose Quintana and Tyler Chatwood in their rotation, as well as the potential to move Mike Montgomery to the back end of it. But if they have attempted to sign both Darvish and Arrieta, it’s just been a slow process.
If the Cubs would rather deal one of their younger players, such as a Albert Almora or Ian Happ, they could match up with the Indians for Salazar.
Either way, the Cubs are still pursuing a starter which should be good news for fans.
