Is a big trade about to go down between the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees?
According to a report by Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News, the Cubs and Yankees have discussed a trade that would send infielder Starlin Castro to the Yankees. In return the Cubs would receive outfielder Brett Gardner.
According to a second source, the Yankees and Cubs have discussed a swap involving Gardner and infielder Starlin Castro, who moved from shortstop to second base last season to make room for top prospect Addison Russell.
The 32-year-old Gardner was bothered by a wrist injury in 2014 and is unlikely to play center field anymore. Meanwhile, Castro turned it on offensively late for the Cubs last season after struggling to start the season and was moved to second base.
Castro has a very-friendly team deal the next few years after he signed a $60 million extension with the team in 2012. Gardner is owed $37.5 million the next three years including a buyout option after.
