Things just got a little more interesting regarding Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton.
After it was believed that the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants were the favorites to land him via trade, that might not be the case anymore. According to a report from Ken Rosenthal, Stanton does not want to accept a deal to the Cardinals or Giants.
He also mentions that Stanton would accept a trade to the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Following that report, Sirius XM’s Craig Mish sent out a tweet confirming those two teams but added two more teams as well:
Now told Stanton will approve :
Dodgers
Yankees
Cubs
Astros— Craig Mish (@CraigMish) December 8, 2017
Yep, the Chicago Cubs are one of those teams.
Stanton would waive his no trade clause if the Marlins could strike a deal with the Cubs. But don’t get too excited, it’s unlikely that Theo Epstein would fork over that much cash as part of Stanton’s contract. Especially when he will have to pay some of his young stars in the coming years.
I do not believe the Cubs & Astros are involved at a high level at this time. That is a belief, I do not have facts to back that up.

It’s not impossible that a deal works out between the two sides, but don’t get your hopes up.
