The Jimmy Garoppolo sweepstakes is about to heat up.
CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora is reporting that the Chicago Bears are making Garoppolo their top offseason priority.
Here’s what La Canfora wrote:
The Chicago Bears will make a strong, concerted effort to acquire quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo from the Patriots, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. The Illinois native is far and away their top offseason priority.
The Bears join a list of teams rumored to be interested in the Patriots quarterback that has made only 2 starts in his career. Both came this season.
Rumors have swirled with teams including the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets being interested in Garoppolo.
The Patriots will likely have a high asking price for the quarterback as reports have said a first round pick in 2017.
Chicago is likely to move on from longtime starter Jay Cutler and will need to fill the void at quarterback right away. If they miss out on Garoppolo, they will likely draft one come April.
