The MLB free agency period will begin at 11:01 p.m. CT on Friday and already reports are circulating about a connection between David Price and the Chicago Cubs.
Fox Sports baseball reporter Ken Rosenthal wrote in his free agency column about the Cubs and Price, linking them together. Rosenthal says that two MLB free agents predict Price will land with the Cubs. He also states that an executive claims the Cubs are Price’s first choice on a long list of teams interested.
It’s not the first time Price and the Cubs have been linked together and with the period beginning Friday, it likely won’t be the last. The left-hander played for Joe Maddon in Tampa Bay and has stated it would be “cool” to win a World Series with the Cubs.
Price will be one of the top free agent prizes and with the Cubs in the market for a starter, the match might be perfect. It would also give the Cubs a solid front-end of the rotation along with Jake Arrieta and Jon Lester.
ESPN’s Buster Olney is also reporting that the Cubs are the favorites to land Price in his Insider column on Friday. Now it’s all still speculation until the papers are signed, but it could be a big offseason on the North Side of Chicago.
