For the second-straight night, the San Diego Padres are adding a top-level starting pitcher without giving up their top prospect.
Just a day after acquiring Blake Snell from Tampa Bay, the Padres have reached a deal with the Chicago Cubs to acquire pitcher Yu Darvish and catcher Victor Caratini for a haul of players. That haul includes pitcher Zach Davies and four prospects in the deal per reports.
The Yu Darvish-to-the-Padres deal is on the verge of happening, sources tell ESPN. Darvish is expected to go with Victor Caratini to SD. Cubs' return is Zach Davies and four young prospects: OF Owen Caissie (18), SS Reggie Preciado (17), OF Ismael Mena (18), Yeison Santana (20).

The Cubs did not receive one of the Padres Top 10 prospects in the deal as the highest-rated prospect is 17-year-old shortstop Reginald Preciado who is rated No. 11 in their system. 18-year-old outfielder Owen Caissie is ranked No. 13 in their system as well.
While Darvish was the runner up in the NL Cy Young voting last season, this is clearly a salary dump for the upcoming season and signals a new rebuild for the Cubs.
