The Cubs entered into Friday nights game with the Marlins after the Cubs defeated the Marlins 4-3 on the previous night. Scott Feldman, still looking for his first win as a Cub took the mound friday night against Wade LeBlanc for the Fish.
The Cubs got things started early as Dave Sappelt started the game of with a single. Starlin Castro would then fly out to center field. That brought up Anthony Rizzo. Rizzo had 6 HR heading into this game with a below 200 average. Rizzo has shown power so far this season, but hasn’t consistently reached base. In the top of the first with Sappelt on first Rizzo blasted his 7th home run of the season to give the Cubs a early 2-0 lead.
In the top of the third inning it was dejavu all over again as Sappelt lead of the inning with a single, and Castro was retired. Which then brought up Anthony Rizzo for his second at bat. Rizzo started were he left of in the first inning as he crushed a home run into the upper deck in right field , and gave the Cubs a 4-0 lead. Rizzo would finish the game going 3-4 with 2HR and 4RBI. Rizzo is now hitting 200. with 8HR and 18 RBI.
Scott Feldman pitched his best game of the year so far as he commanded his pitches well. Feldman maneuvered through the depleted Marlins lineup pretty easily as he only gave up two runs, both earned. He gave up the first on a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth by Joe Mahoney, and his second came on a sac fly in the bottom of the seventh by Chris Valaika.
Scott Feldman got his first win as a Cub(1-3), and Kevin Gregg picked up his second save of the year and Cubs improved to 8-14 on the year. The Cubs will try to make their two game win streak a three game win streak tomorrow in game three of this four game series against the Marlins in Miami. The pitching matchup tomorrow will be Alex Sanabia for the Marlins, and Travis Wood for the Cubs. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 pm central time.
