The Chicago Bulls are currently fighting to avoid sinking further in the Eastern Conference standings. The Bulls have fallen to the 5th seed in the East after a poor start to the second half.
Meanwhile, the red-hot Boston Celtics have forced their way into a tie with the Miami Heat for 1st place. Unfortunately for the Celtics, their position in the standings may look a bit different by the end of the regular season on April 10th.
On Monday morning, Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Robert Williams of the Celtics will miss several weeks, likely ending his season.
ESPN Sources: Celtics C Robert Williams has suffered a meniscus tear in his left knee and will minimally miss several weeks. Further evaluation today will help provide a timetable. Boston moved into first-place Sunday, and Williams has been immense part of NBA’s best defense.

Robert Williams has been a massive piece for the Celtics during this stretch. Williams being out is an immeasurable loss for them, especially on the defensive side. Bulls fans know how much losing an important role player/defensive specialist can impact a team. The Bulls faced a major dropoff when faced with injuries to Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso. Now the Celtics may have been dealt a similar challenge.
This injury could make the top seed in the East even more up for grabs than it was before. Although most teams have less than 10 games remaining this season, the Eastern Conference standings can still look drastically different by the end of the season. For example, the 6th place Toronto Raptors are only 4.5 games out of 1st place and also happen to be only one game above the Cleveland Cavaliers. If the playoffs started today, the 7th seed Cavaliers would have to fight for their season in the play-in tournament. Currently, it seems as though all of the top teams have the potential to finish in 1st place.
The Bulls currently sit in the 5th spot in the East at 43-31. With eight games remaining, they are still not safe from sinking into the play-in tournament. For the Bulls, every game from here on out feels like a must-win situation. The Bulls’ regular-season finale takes place on April 10th against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
