After Jake Peavy and the Sox put together a brilliant effort against the Royals many Sox fans got there hopes up because the easiness of the six game homestand. After tonight’s 7-2 loss to Kansas City, you could say we are a little nervous.
Gavin Floyd (1-3) looked like he was coming around last week as he throught 7 innings of brilliant baseball. However it was downhill from the start as Gavin gave up 6 runs and a career high 13 hits in 6 1/3 innings. David Dejesus led off the game with a double and eventually scored on Billy Butler’s RBI double play.
The offense was pretty non existant today as 1 run came on error in the 3rd. It started when Juan Pierre singled and Gordon Beckham walked. They then completed a double steal and Juan eventually scored on a throwing error by Jason Kendall. The other run came off a solo shot by A.J. in the 7th when it looked like the game was already over, it was his first of the season. It could have been a lot worse as the Royals left 6 men on base in the first 3 innings.
There were 3 main Sox killers today’s: Mike Aviles, had 3 hits including a homerun. Former South Sider Scotty Pods had 2 hits including an RBI triple. And the main killer was young righty Luke Hochevar who allowed just 1 run earned run on only 3 hits.
The Sox look to take the series 2-1 tomorrow at 7:10pm CT.
