Brandon Meriweather has only been with the Chicago Bears for 13 days and will be thrust into a starting role Sunday. Starting Safety Chris Harris is listed as doubtful with a hamstring injury. This leaves the Bears with Brandon Meriweather and Major Wright.
A player signed almost two weeks ago playing along side of a 2nd year player against an elite quarterback wouldn’t normally sit well with Lovie Smith. Smith is 100% confident in who they put out on the field.
“If we put them out there, we’re going to be comfortable with them…I just know Brandon is a quick study. And he has been around the game a little bit. The terminology is a little different, but it’s not like he’s a rookie coming in. He has lined up in big games. If we end up playing him more than he played before, we’ll feel comfortable.”
If Meriweather and Wright can prevent Saints WR’s Robert Meachem and Devory Henderson from getting the deep ball, it will be a successful day for the duo. The majority of the responsibility will rely on the Bears tackling, Brees will find the quick Darren Sproles underneath all day. If we resort to arm tackles, Sproles will have the game of his life.
Bold Prediction: Brandon Meriweather will have a big play, whether it be a huge hit or an interception.
