Win: Ross Detwiler (2-3) Loss: Jeff Samardzija (1-5)
Home Runs: WASH: Ian Desmond (5)
The Good: This was a very rough game for the Cubs, so not much good came out of it. The Cubs did hit a ton of doubles, with Starlin Castro hitting two, and Jeff Samardzija, Scott Hairston, Cody Ransom, Ryan Sweeney, and Darwin Barney adding one. Hector Rondon, Kyuji Fujikawa, and Shawn Camp threw one scoreless frames apiece. This was Fujikawa’s first appearance since coming off of the DL.
The Bad: Alfonso Soriano and Welington Castillo were the only starters that did not record any hits.
The Ugly: Jeff Samardzija had his worst start of the season, allowing five earned runs over five innings and letting up eight hits. This raised his ERA to 3.70. He also committed his second error of the season.
The Stat: After Castillo’s hitless day, no Cubs hitter is hitting above .300.
Notes: Back at it tomorrow, with Edwin Jackson trying to right the ship against Stephen Strasburg.
