The Chicago Cubs farm system is loaded and it continues to get national attention.
First ESPN’s Keith Law ranked it the No. 1 farm system in the MLB, along with Kris Bryant being named Law’s top prospect for the upcoming season. Now Baseball Prospectus has ranked seven Cubs prospects in the Top 101.
There’s a little surprise near the top of the list as well, as shortstop Addison Russell was ranked No. 2 overall. Russell only trails Minnesota’s Byron Buxton on the list. That means Russell is ahead of Bryant who comes in at No. 5 overall.
Outfielder Jorge Soler got a taste of the big leagues last season and showed a lot of promise. Soler was ranked No. 19 on the list, giving the Cubs three top 20 prospects.
Here’s where the rest of them were ranked:
- 38. Albert Almora, OF
- 77. Kyle Schwarber, C/OF
- 81. Billy McKinney, OF
- 83. Pierce Johnson, RHP
Despite his struggles, Almora still cracks the list coming in with a top 40 ranking. Almora has struggled with his bat in the few years he’s been in the system, but his glove is something scouts are very high on.
