San Jose hands Chicago their third straight loss by a final score of 1-0. The Blackhawks are now 1-3-0 on their 6-game road trip.
There were many opportunities for the Blackhawks to get on the board in the opening period, but came away with nothing on 2 power plays while Marian Hossa and Bryan Bickell both missed on a breakaway.
Jason Demers cracked the scoreboard first firing a slap-shot from the point that deflected off Jonathan Toews’ stick and in past Corey Crawford. However, the game still favored Chicago as they outshot San Jose 23-11 in the first 40 minutes of the game.
For a team playing from behind in a road game, the Blackhawks didn’t really enter the third period with a lot of energy and spent too much time in their own zone for the most of it. Demers’ goal ended up being the game-winner as the Sharks won their 4th straight game which moved them into 2nd place in the Western Conference right past Chicago.
Antti Niemi was sensational against his former team stopping all 34 shots faced earning his first shutout of the season. Corey Crawford also played one of his better games of the year finishing with 20 saves, unfortunately couldn’t get any scoring support tonight.
