ESPN’s 30-for-30 ‘The Last Dance’ took the sports world by storm in the Spring with no live sports going on, providing us a 10-part look at the Chicago Bulls dynasty and their final run in the 1997-98 NBA season.
The documentary gave us plenty of awesome moments, behind-the-scenes footage, and some new info into this dynasty. It was pretty damn good for the most part but did have some very intriguing storylines. However, while the general public appeared to enjoy it, one player in particular didn’t.
Bulls’ legend Scottie Pippen reportedly wasn’t happy with the film and he had to let Michael Jordan know as The Guardian reports:
How accurate was the The Last Dance in showing what went on?
I don’t think it was that accurate in terms of really defining what was accomplished in one of the greatest eras of basketball, but also by two of the greatest players – and one could even put that aside and say the greatest team of all time. I didn’t think those things stood out in the documentary. I thought it was more about Michael trying to uplift himself and to be glorified [the series was co-produced by Jordan’s Jump 23 company]. I think it also backfired to some degree in that people got a chance to see what kind of personality Michael had.
Have you spoken to him about your opinion of series?
Yeah. I told him I wasn’t too pleased with it. He accepted it. He said, “hey, you’re right”. That was pretty much it
Okay, not really much drama there as Jordan appears to have understood Pippen’s frustrations. But we can’t lie, Pippen was the subject of a few key events including not wanting to play the final 1.8 seconds of a game, not wanting to fuck up his Summer and his contract dilemma. But we can’t blame him at all, it really wasn’t a good look.
