Another start, another win for Cubs’ pitcher Carlos Silva. Silva (8-0) dominated the Pirates during his 7 innings of work allowing only 1 run on 4 hits. Jeff Stevens and Sean Marshall combined to shutout the Pirates for the final 2 innings.
The Cubs (26-31) were in Pittsburgh to face the Pirates (23-34) due to a rain out last week. The win was a welcome one for sure considering the Cubs have struggled against the Pirates and Astros of the NL Central.
Ryan Theriot had his best game in quite awhile. Theriot was the sparkplug at the top of the order and went 2-3 with 2 walks and 4 runs scored. Theriot also stole his 10th and 11th bags of the season. Marlon Byrd went 3-4 with 2 RBIs. Jeff Baker played 3rd for Aramis Ramirez and added 2 RBIs. Derrek Lee recorded only 1 hit in 5 at bats but did have an RBI single in the 9th.
The Cubs will travel to Milwaukee to take on the Brewers. Ted Lilly (1-5) will look for that elusive 2nd win of the season. The Brewers will send Yovani Gallardo (6-2) to try and stop their struggles vs. the Cubs.
