The opening game features Gavin Floyd and Carlos Carrasco. Carrasco is 0-1 this year vs. the sox with a 9.45 ERA and has been less than stellar at home posting a 6.35 ERA in 8 games at progressive field. After a solid June, earning a 1.90, Carrasco has lost all 3 games in July posting a 9.00 ERA. As we have come to expect Gavin has been a rollercoaster pitching well in two of his three last starts, but earning a 7-9 record this year and a 4.37 ERA.
The middle game has Edwin Jackson facing David Huff. After recently being recalled from the minors Huff pitched 7 shutout innings against the Twins. Last year he had issues with fastball command, an
issue he had fixed while in the minors. Edwin Jackson is coming off an excellent start vs. the Tigers in which he pitched his first shutout since his no hitter.
The finale will feature pitchers Phil Humber and Justin Masterson. Masterson has been solid vs. the Sox since coming to the Indians from the Red Sox he has a 2.09 ERA in 12 game, 8 starts, against the Sox. He has pitched better away, but at home he has been solid this year with a 2.86 ERA. Left-handed batters have fared far better against the righty batting .278. Humber has been a “hard luck loser” often as has the rest of the starting staff.
