We now know who runs this city! Maybe not in numbers but the Sox have now beat the Cubs 6 straight times and have a 4 game lead over them in the overall series.
Once again it was an early start that would help the Sox and doom the Cubbies. With Alexei on 3rd and Rios on second Paul Konerko lined a ball into right center field to score Ramirez. The Sox would be shut down by the now 8-1 Carlos Silva up until the 7th inning. In the 7th it was once again Paul Konerko who proved to be a hero as he singled to right to score Juan Pierre.
However, the Cubs would make it a game in the 9th. After Soto singled Ryan Theriot came up big with a 2 out single to short right field. Bobby Jenks would strike out Chad Tracy with the cutter to end the Cubs rally.
What a job by Mr. Mark Buehrle today. Mark went 6.2 innings allowing 8 hits and 0 runs. Buehrle very much took advantage of Doug Eddings gernerous plate. Pitches 3 to 4 inches off the plate were most called for strikes which was a big reason that Mark fanned 7 this afternoon. Pitching the rest of the 7th for Buehrle was the young slinger Sergio Santos. Santos also used the big plate to his advantage as he put a fastball right by the hitter on the edge to end the Cubs threat. JJ Putz would work the 8th inning in relief, after allowing a hit he settled down and got a strike out to end the inning. It was big bad Bobby Jenks to the rescue. After shutting down teh Cubs in the 9th yesterday he was right back out there today, although things were not as smooth. Bobby Would allow 3 men to reach base but he would strike out Tracy to end the game giving the Sox a 2-1 win.
Jayson Nix and Paul Konerko were the only Sox batters to record more then one hit. On the bright side Gordon Beckham did have a double which would break his streak of over 100 AB’s with out an extra base hit.
Carlos Quentin was the only batter to go 0-5.
The Sox will look to sweep the series tomorrow night on the North Side. The Game will be on ESPN at 7pm CT.
