The Sox go in to Fenway against the AL East leading Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox are 30-23 and just finished a series win against our AL Central rival Detroit Tigers.
In the first game of the series the Sox will send Jake Peavy to the mound against lefty John Lester. Lester is 7-1 on the year with a 3.36 ERA and is 3-0 in his last 3 and is 2-2 against the Sox in his career with a 4.99 ERA. Peavy is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA vs. the Carmines.
The Second game features Gavin Floyd and Alfredo Aceves. Aceves is 2-0 with a 2.22 ERA this year. He has made 2 starts while replacing the injured Daisuke Matsuzaka. In his last 3 Aceves is 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA over 11 innings pitched. Gavin Floyd made his first appearance in relief since his first year with the Sox earning the loss in a 9-8 14 inning game on Saturday. Gavin is 4-0 with a 3.53 ERA vs. the “other” Sox.
The Sox send Phil Humber to oppose knuckleballer Tim Wakefield in this series finale. Wakefield, being in the league for 100 years has gone 7-12 with a 4.93 in 21 career games against the greatest baseball team in Chicago. He is 2-1 with a 4.14 ERA this year. Humber has been the most consistent pitcher for the Sox this year going 3-3 with a 2.85 ERA and has given up 2 or less earned runs in 7 of 9 starts.
