The opening match-up features Gavin Floyd and Jason Hammel. The 28 year old Hammel is 4-7 this year with a 4.13 ERA. He is coming off his 7th loss this year surrendering 4 ER in 6 innings and is 0-1 with a 4.63 ERA vs. the Sox in his career. Gavin has had a rough go of it lately going 0-2 in his last 3 earning a 6.16 ERA, overall this year he is 6-7 with a 4.31 ERA.
Mark Buehrle looks to strengthen his MLB leading record vs. NL teams, opposing the southpaw is Ubaldo Jimenez. Jimenez was disappointing to start the season going 0-5 but has rebounded winning 3 of his last 5. Last year was a break out year for the righty, but has been unable to build on that success. Buehrle is 24-6 over his career in interleague play but surprisingly has never faced Colorado. He has a 6-5 record this year and a 3.73 ERA and left a rain shortened start in his last turn going 5.1 innings surrendering 2 ER.
The finale will feature Jake Peavy and Aaron Cook. Cook is 0-2 on the year with a 4.67 ERA in 3 games he was activated from the DL on June 8th from a broken ring finger, suffered during spring training. He has a 1-0 record against the Sox with a 4.50 ERA. Peavy is 3-1 this year with a 4.72 ERA and has extensive history vs. the Rockies he has gone 4-6 with a 3.81 ERA against them.
