If you like pitching duels this was a game you should have been at.
Jake Peavy was brilliant again as he went all 9 innings. This coming after Jake needed rest because of a tired arm. The rest was just what Peavy needed as he pitched a complete game allowing 0 runs, 3 hits and he walked 2 while striking out 7. Many believed that Jake would go on the DL, thus the reason that Daneil Hudson was called up, however I think we can expect to see Jake here for awhile, sorry Dan. The reason behind Jakes success was his ability to nail the corner on breaking pitches. Hitters coul just not catch up to it which makes it very easy for a pitcher. This was the first time that Peavy has gone all 9 innings in a game this year.
For the Nationals JD Martin was almost just as good. Martin went 6 innings allowing just 1 run on 8 hits while striking out 6. Martin was taken out due to his high pitch count.
Despite 2 straight wins in our Nations capital runs have not come easy to the South Siders. The Sox have scored just 3 runs over 2 games but have managed to pick up the victory in both games. The key is starting pitch as Peavy, Floyd, Putz and Jenks have combined to allow just 1 run over the last 2 games. You do have to wonder about the hitting as the Sox have not left the yard in 6 games.
The Sox will look to sweep their second straight series tomorrow afternoon.
