With the Sox this season, you really have no idea what kind of team you are going to see when you enter the Cell. One night the Sox may get blown out by 18 runs by the leagues worst team and the next day MB56 or Peavy will pitch a perfect game. Neither of those happened today but the South Siders did get the 9-2 win over the Royals to take the series 2-1. It was a great effort all around as Sweaty Freddy through a gem and the offense was explosive!
Garcia allowed a run in the 5th and another in the 6th but that is all he would let cross the plate. He saved himself from many close calls throughout the game. Chris Getz had an RBI single in the 5th with nobody out and we all thought here we go again. However, Bloomquist lined out, DeJesus then grounded out and he ended the inning with a strike out on Scott Podsednik, fellow 2005 World Series hero. Freddy had been 0-7 against the Royals since the 2005 season.
The offense wasn’t to shabby as Sox batters crossed home plate 9 times today. Andruw Jones started it all of in the 1st inning with a 2 run home run that also scored Gordon Beckham. Carlos Quentin added to the fun with an rbi single that scored Rios. Teahen apparently wanted in on the action as he added an rbi single which scored A.J.. Paul Konerko thought he should contribute so in the 2nd he platted Pierre with an RBI double. In the 4th Andruw Jones walked in a run and Rios hit a sac fly to make it a 7-0 game. Chris Getz and Callaspo had RBI singles in back to back innings. Rios wasn’t feelin’ it so he added insult to injury with 2 run home run.
The Royals starter, Brian Bannister was anything but great has he only went 3 innings giving up 7 runs on 7 hits including 3 K’s. Bannister now has an ERA over 8 in 13 career starts against the Sox.
The Sox start a new series tomorrow against the Toronto Blue Jays.
