The series opener features lefties Duane Below and Mark Buehrle. Below has made one Major League appearance, going 5 innings surrendering 1 run. He was drafted in the 19th round of the 2006 draft. This year in the minors he was 9-4 with a 3.13 ERA covering 115 innings for AAA Toledo. Buehrle has been giving the Sox quality innings this year, going 1-0 in his last 3. Just being Buehrle.
The middle game features Verlander and Peavy squaring off. Justin Verlander has been one of the best pitchers in the AL this year with a 2.24 ERA and a no hitter but his last time out vs. the Sox he was not good going 6 innings surrendering 5 runs, losing his 5th of the year. Peavy is 0-3 over his last 3 going 16.1 innings surrendering 23 hits and 13 runs.
The finale features Max Scherzer and John Danks. Scherzer was the hard-luck loser in his last outing vs the Sox going 8 innings surrendering 2 ER and striking out 6, sounds like an Humber outing. He has gone 2-1 in his last 3, that 1 loss being the Sox. Danks was excellent in his return from the DL but the Sox loss due to an inability to score runs.
