Just days after winning the Double-A Home Run Derby, Kris Bryant got a promotion. The Chicago Cubs announced today that they have promoted Bryant to Triple-A Iowa, per Carrie Muskat. It’s a move that Cubs fans have been waiting on for weeks now.
Bryant hit .355 with 22 home runs and 58 RBI’s for the Tennessee Smokies. The 22-year-old prospect dominated Double-A pitching for the majority of the season and the move now makes sense for the organization. He leads the Southern League in multiple hitting categories including hits, runs, RBI, home runs, average and slugging percentage.
He now joins fellow Cubs prospect Javier Baez in Iowa giving the Cubs two of their top prospects just one call-up away from the majors. The likely scenario is both players will be in Chicago in 2015.
