Starlin Castro will currently be the only Chicago Cub to be in Minnesota for the 2014 MLB All-Star game next week. Castro was named to the roster as a backup shortstop.
This is Castro’s third All-Star selection in his young career. Castro is hitting .287 with 11 home runs and 51 RBI’s on the season.
Castro will represent the Cubs, but he will have a former teammate there to be honored as well.
Just a a few days after being traded to the Oakland Athletics, Jeff Samardzija was named to the NL All-Star team. Because of the trade, Samardzija won’t be able to play for the National League, but can be honored at the game.
First basemen Anthony Rizzo will be part of the “Final Man Vote”, to elect one more player to the team. Fans can vote for Rizzo when it opens up this week.
