In back-to-back-days, the Chicago Cubs have lost a player to the DL. Yesterday the Cubs placed closer Kyuji Fujikawa on the 15-day DL and the Cubs will place catcher/1B/3B Steve Clevenger on the 15-day DL Tuesday with a left oblique strain. Clevenger will miss at least 6 weeks.
If you don’t recall, Clevenger injured his oblique on the last pitch of yesterday’s game. Clevenger injured his oblique swinging the baseball bat. Clevenger was the last out of yesterday’s game as he struck out. So, yes he injured his oblique on the last swing where be struck out.
The Cubs will place Clevenger on the 15-day DL Tuesday when Darwin Barney is activated off the DL. By doing that, the Cubs will not have to make a corresponding move. Now Brett Lillibridge and Alberto Cabrera will both stay in Chicago for a little while longer.
Clevenger was going to get the start today at 3B. Clevenger had a excellent spring and why he made the Cubs roster. He hasn’t had much playing time, but in the time he has played, he’s looked pretty good. Clevenger started at 3B a few days ago and looked good. He made nice stops and looked like a true 3B.
