Chicago Bulls power forward Taj Gibson is expected to miss approximately four months after receiving surgery on his left ankle.
Dr. David Porter, a foot specialist from Indianapolis, performed arthroscopic surgery on Gibson’s left ankle on Tuesday. The cleaning and repairing of the ankle was successful and the Bulls stated that Gibson has already begun his rehabilitation for his left ankle. Gibson is likely to return to action in the middle of October which could mean missing part of the upcoming pre-season.
Gibson is entering his seventh season in the NBA and appeared in 62 games last season for the Bulls. The forward averaged 10.3 points, .502 shooting percentage, 6.4 rebounds, and 27.3 minutes per game. Gibson played in all 12 of the Bulls’ playoff games last season where he averaged 7.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 23.0 minutes per game. Gibson was playing hurt throughout the playoffs and most of the regular season with ongoing ankle problems. Gibson also mentioned back in February that he was dealing with a stage 2 ligament tear in his hand.
While the Bulls expect him back on the court in October, there is a possibility that he could miss the start of the upcoming regular season.
