The Bears 2013 regular season roster is set.
LAKE FOREST- The preseason is over and the Bears have set their roster for the 2013 season. After losing their final exhibition to Cleveland on Thursday night, The Bears began the final cuts on Friday.
Yesterday, the Bears waived five more players to cut down to 53. Those players are as follows:
Offense:
WR Terrance Toliver
OT Cory Brandon
Defense:
DT Corvey Irvin
LB J.T. Thomas
S Brandon Hardin
Hardin, who was struggled with injuries since being drafted in 2012, sustained yet another injury against Cleveland on Thursday. The Bears can put him on injured reserve again if he can clear waivers. Brandon and Irvin were given injury settlements and won’t be able to sign with any team until those settlements expire.
Today, the Bears signed seven players to their practice squad. Here is how that list looks:
Offense:
QB Jerrod Johnson
FB Harvey Unga
WR Ricardo Lockette
TE Fendi Onobun
Defense:
DE Aston Whiteside
LB Jerry Franklin
CB Demontre Hurst
The Bears still have room for one more player on the practice squad. It’s possible that they can hang onto that final spot and reserve it for Matt Blanchard once his injury settlement expires.
It appears that the Bears still believe that there is potential for Harvey Unga to be a contributor in the National Football League. This will be his second go-round on the practice squad since being drafted in 2010.
It also appears that Marc Trestman is willing to work with Fendi Onobun to make him a productive tight end in this league. He will have his work cut out for him. The coaching staff was also pretty high on Aston Whiteside.
Being on the practice squad will give him a chance to develop. Demontre Hurst had his breakout game against Cleveland on Thursday night. Now he has to prove himself worthy of playing in the NFL. Here is now the final 53-man roster for the Bears will look heading into the season opener:
