Chicago Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford was diagnosed with a concussion last night after colliding with Dylan Strome. In a corresponding move, the Blackhawks placed Crawford on injured reserve and recalled goalie Collin Delia from the Rockford IceHogs.
On Sunday night against the San Jose Sharks Evander Kane knocked Dylan Strome into Crawford causing Crawford to hit the back of his head on the goal post. Crawford immediately left the game and was later confirmed to have a concussion.
Almost a year ago Corey Crawford suffered a concussion that took him nine months to recover from. The last thing Crawford needed was another concussion, his future with the Blackhawks and as a hockey player could be in jeopardy.
At some point Crawford needs to think about his future health and if it’s still worth it to continue playing hockey. Obviously that isn’t easy for a player of his caliber to decide.
Crawford has accomplished things that most NHL goalies dream about. Two Stanley Cups, two time All-Star and two Jennings Trophies. Crawford is an extremely underrated goalie that deserves far more recognition.
If Crawford decided to hang up his skates, I think he could be proud of what he was able to accomplish.
