The Chicago Blackhawks traded Marian Hossa, Vinnie Hinostroza, Jordan Oesterle and a 2019 3rd round pick to Arizona for Marcus Kruger, Jordan Maletta, Andrew Campbell, MacKenzie Entwistle and a 2019 5th round pick. With this trade, the Blackhawks save $4.65 million and give them around $8.5 million in cap space.
Moving Hossa’s contract was one of Bowman’s goals for this off-season. It’s surprising that the Blackhawks were able to move Hossa’s contract without giving up top prospects in their system. Hinostroza is a good player, he’s also someone that is easy to replace.
Bringing Kruger back makes sense, he’s on the last year of his deal and can actually help the Blackhawks with face-offs. MacKenzie Entwistle might be an interesting prospect. He’s only 18 and looks to be a two-way center that can kill penalties.
This trade doesn’t really make the Blackhawks better or worse, it’s mostly a cap dump that will come in handy if the Blackhawks were to make a trade for a quality player.
