Derrick Rose scored 30 points and dished out eight dimes as the Chicago Bulls defeated the Boston Celtics 97-81 on Thursday evening in Chicago.
After a competitive first half, the Bulls pulled away in the third period. It was Chicago’s defense that started to shut down the Celtics’ attack, and the team never looked back.
On two occasions, Rose went right around Rajon Rondo of the Celtics— crossing him over and finishing with the lay-ups. Derrick went 9-of-16 from the field and shot 10-of-10 from the foul line. Rondo only shot 3-of-10 from the floor and 1-of-3 from the line with seven points and six assists. Rondo missed a couple of easy lay-ups in transition as well.
The Bulls are now staring the first seed in the Eastern Conference dead in the eye after Thursday night’s decisive victory over the Celtics. Chicago has now clinched a better seed in the playoff race than the Miami Heat. Their “magic number” to clinch over the Boston Celtics stands at just one.
