Today was a day of the offense and a guy name Matt Garza. Matt Garza was perfect today and he didn’t even need to be. However, ity’s good that he was spot on. For once Matt Garza had run support and the bullpen could not lose this one for him. Garza was trying to pitch the complete game shutout, but his costly error threw that out the books. His error was probably the worse throw I have seen in a long time or in my whole life. Matt Garza’s line today was 8.2 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs and walked 2. Shawn Camp came into the game and the first batter he faced grounded-out the Starlin Castro to end the game.
The start of the 6 run rally in which 9 batters came to the plate was started by the 2 players that did not play yesterday … Steve Clevenger and Reed Johnson. Both were in the line-up because Soto and Byrd have struggled and made costly outs yesterday. Clevenger started the inning with a double and Reed Johnson followed that with a rbi single. After that, the offense cliche and were unstoppable. Besides Clevenger’s 3 hits today, Starlin Castro, Davis DeJesus, and Ian Stewart had a multi-hit game too.
The only negative I can say about this game in Matt Garza’s poor bunting. He can’t handle the bat at all. He looks so bad with the bat in his hand, especially when he’s trying to lay down a bunt. However, if he pitched like he did today, who cares how he handles the bat.
The Cubs ended their home-stand with a 2-6 record and of course, that’s their record on the season. The Cubs will travel to St. Louis tomorrow and let’s hope Jeff Samardzija can have a repeat performance. The game will begin at 2:05 and will be televised on WGN.
