The Chicago Cubs who are still in the market to add another arm for the backend of their bullpen, they are predicted to sign this All-Star closer in a new report.
The Chicago Cubs are still in the market to possibly add another late inning reliever for this upcoming season to pair with right-handers Porter Hodge and Tyson Miller at the backend of their bullpen. In a recent article published in Bleacher Report by Tim Kelly he predicts that the Chicago Cubs will give this former closer a two-year $23 million deal to join the Cubs bullpen.
Could the Cubs sign Carlos Estevez?
Tim Kelly predicts that the Cubs will sign former All-Star closer Carlos Estevez to a two-year $23 million deal. Estevez who has been a solid reliever throughout his career, had his 2024 season split between the Los Angeles Angels where he signed a one-year deal to start the year and then being traded to the Philadelphia Phillies at last year’s trade deadline to finish his season.
For his career Carlos Estevez is has a career 27-31 record with a 4.21 ERA, with 82 career saves, in 419.1 career innings. Last season for both the Angeles and the Phillies Carlos Estevez was one of the better relievers in both the National and American Leagues with going 4-5 with a 2.45 ERA, with 50 strikeouts, 26 saves, in 55.0 innings of work.
According to Kelly if the Cubs added Carlos Estevez to and already deep bullpen he writes:
“the Cubs could build a pretty strong bullpen for manager Craig Counsell if they added Estévez to a unit that also includes Porter Hodge and Tyson Miller.”
Is it worth it for the Chicago Cubs to sign Carlos Estevez?
If the Cubs indeed sign Carlos Estevez to join their bullpen it would give the Cubs one of the better bullpens in the National League with already adding veteran left-hander and former Minnestoa Twin Caleb Thielbar to help in the backend. According to Spotrac they predict Carlos Estevez having a market value of signing a three-year $42.048 million deal at an average annual value of $14.016 million. Getting Estevez on the two-year $23 million deal would be a lot cheaper and make the Cubs be more interested in signing Estevez.
