Attention National League pitchers: Alfonso Soriano is locked in. Soriano is going through 1 of the phases in which he carries the entire team on his back. Were experiencing flashes of the 2007 Soriano. This is the type of Soriano we haven’t seen in a very long time.
Soriano hit 2 more homeruns on Sunday (his 3rd and 4th in only 3 days). He is hitting well above .300 and has stepped up as the biggest threat in the lineup since Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez have been struggling.
Ryan Theriot added 3 more hits continuing to stay scorching hot. Theriot is tied with fellow Cub Marlon Byrd for the most multi-hit games this season. Byrd also hit a homerun and had 3 RBIs in the win. Chad Tracy got the start for the slumping Aramis Ramirez and raised his average by more than .90 points with 3 hits.
The Cubs finished Sunday with 10 runs on 15 hits. Hopefully their offensive surge during the weekend series continues on the road.
Thanks to Soriano and the offense, Tom Gorzelanny (1-3) got his 1st win of the season. Gorzelanny continues to be solid for the Cubs in the 5th slot of the rotation. Gorzelanny fanned a career high 10 batters in his 7 innings of work. The lefty only allowed 2 runs against a potent Diamondback offense.
With an 8 run lead, the Cubs turned to John Grabow in the 9th. The boo birds came out when Grabow got hit hard and allowed 3 runs. With Carlos Zambrano warming in the ‘pen, Grabow ended the Diamondback rally sealing the victory.
Chicago finishes up their home-stand 4-3 and will head to Pittsburgh. With the travel day on Monday, Ryan Dempster (2-1) will kick off the road-trip on Tuesday for the Cubs while the Pirates will throw Paul Maholm (1-2).

I wouldn’t expect him to keep this up long.
Yeah I agree. Based on the law of averages, he’ll be hot for a week, then were going to pay for it later when he goes into a 4-57 slump with 24 K’s.
