Hey all. Starting this week, the guys at CCS have decided to give you a plethora of fantasy football advice. We’ve got Start ’em/Sit ’em, Injury Reports, a Top Five Position Ranking, and my own personal little gem: The Sleepers Report.
For The Sleepers Report, I’m going to give you a player you may have on your bench you should start, and a player that may be available in your league that you could pick up as a one week stop-gap who could produce quite nicely for you.
So with no further adieu, here is the week 6 Sleepers Report:
At Quarterback:
Bench — Mark Sanchez – New York Jets
Look, Sanchez has been about as effective at throwing as the Jets have been at stopping the run this year. However, he’s going up against a Miami team that stinks even worse than the Jets do. Miami is currently ranked 31st in the league against opposing QBs according to ESPN, and the Jets have proven that they cannot run the ball, regardless of how hard they try. He’s a good play this week if your starter is on a bye.
Free Agent — Sam Bradford – St. Louis Rams
I know, they’re going up against Green Bay, and Bradford’s been slightly below horrid so far this season. But Green Bay is susceptible to giving up yards in the passing game (ESPN ranks them 27th against the pass) and St. Louis is going to have to air it out just to stay competitive. He may have a couple of turnovers, but if you only have one QB on the roster, and he’s on a bye, Bradford should have a solid fantasy performance on Sunday.
At Running Back:
Bench — James Starks – Green Bay Packers
It’s been tough to warrant a starting job for a Packers RB this season, what with Aaron Rodgers throwing the ball all over the field. But if there was ever a week to take a flyer on a guy that’s been buried on your bench since your draft, this is a good week to start James Starks. St. Louis can’t stop the run to save their lives, and if the Packers get out to a big lead, they may try to simply reduce the injury threat in the second half and pound the rock.
Free Agent — Earnest Graham – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
New Orleans ranks right in the middle of the pack at stopping the run, QB Josh Freeman has regressed since last season, and Blount is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game. What’s that mean? Graham may have a double-digit scoring game for your fantasy team this Sunday. He’s a more-than-capable stop-gap if you have a couple of RB’s on a bye week.
At Wide Receiver:
Bench — Plaxico Burress – New York Jets
As previously mentioned, Sanchez may choose to air it out against a bad Miami pass defense. The biggest beneficiary may be the tallest player on the field, and the 2nd option for Mark Sanchez. Plax owners have long awaited a break-out game for the ex-convict, and this game looks to be a good matchup for him.
Free Agent — Hines Ward – Pittsburgh Steelers
Ward’s game has been nearly non-existent this season. However with RB Mendenhall banged up and the Steelers expected to not have much trouble against rookie Blaine Gabbert and the Jags, Coach Mike Tomlin may look to throw his once-star a bone in this game. I see Ward hitting pay-dirt once and having 70+ yards.
At Tight End:
Bench — Greg Olsen – Carolina Panthers
Olsen has quietly caught touchdowns in each of his last 3 games, and is becoming a favorite red zone target for rookie phenom Cam Newton. He may not end up with a lot of yards, but in a game that looks to be a shoot-out against Atlanta, Olsen is a solid play.
Free Agent — Visanthe Shiancoe – Minnesota Vikings
Shiancoe hasn’t had a good season to date, but in the red zone against a Bears team that has struggled covering TEs this season, don’t be surprised if this big TE can find the end zone
At Kicker:
lol. Just drop your current kicker for Olindo Mare or Mike Nugent. Kickers are a complete toss-up.
At Defense:
With defenses, you typically have one good one, and no back-up. Drop a WR that will never be a factor anyway (right Titus Young?) for a favorable match-up, like Oakland at home against Cleveland.
So there are some sleepers you might want to consider picking up in your deep leagues this fantasy football weekend. Good luck!
