The Chicago Blackhawks snap their 9-game losing streak by defeating the New York Rangers by a final score of 4-2. First win since January 20th against Florida.
The Blackhawks arguably played their best period of hockey this season absolutely unloading on the Rangers scoring 4 goals just 9 minutes and 38 seconds into the opening period.
Jonathan Toews was awarded a penalty shot a minute into the contest and beat Martin Biron five-hole to give the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead. Chicago had gone 5 straight games without scoring the first goal of the game after tonight.
Nick Leddy, Patrick Sharp, and Marian Hossa each knocked in a goal in the period, while Brent Seabrook registered 2 assists as well. Hossa and Toews both earn their 15th multi-point of the season.
The Rangers chipped away at the Blackhawks lead early in the second period on a Marc Staal slap shot, his first goal of the season. Carl Hagelin also tacked on a late goal in the period and that’s all the would get.
Dylan Olsen finished third among Blackhawks defenseman in ice time and led the team in hits with 3.
Corey Crawford stopped 22 of 24 shots faced and was a pretty big part on why the Blackhawks penalty kill finished a season best 7-for-7 tonight.
Chicago’s first win against the Rangers in regulation since December 11, 2002, when they won 4-3 in New York.
