Breaking news: According to a report from the Boston Hearld, Red Sox general manager (as of now) is close to joining the Cubs. Epstein will be the Cubs new general manager and is expected to get a higher position too. The likely choice is President, but still to be seen. The report says an announcement is expected to be made within 24-48 hours.
Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune states compensation from the Cubs going to the Red Sox for Theo Epstein is still undecided. The report from the Boston Heard said it’s expected to be a “real player”. I’m not sure of who that is, but it won’t be star stud shortstop Starlin Castro. Like many are sayin’, don’t listen to them.
The Cubs have interview other candidates for their GM opening if Theo Epstein were to fell thru, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Peter Gammons, for the most start shoots down the report and says “the report is far ahead of decisions”. However, he does say it could happen.
I’m so happy that all of this can finally be put to rest and the Cubs can move on to other needs. Anyone else as happy as I am that all the Theo Epstein reports may finally be done?
Stay tuned…
