Round 1 (CAR pick): CB Kool-Aid McKinstry / Alabama / 6’1-188 LBS
It’s safe to say I’m “Drinking the Kool-Aid” on Kool-Aid McKinstry. This dude has a chance to be a star at the next level, as he’s projected to be the number one corner in the 2024 class.
Alabama has always been a factory for making defensive backs, with a track record as long as your mother’s grocery list. Nick Saban produces talent year in and year out, and Kool-Aid McKinstry could be the next big-name defender out of Alabama.
It’s Kool-Aid McKinstry’s season in 2023.

McKinstry has a fantastic blend of athleticism, speed, and quickness as a cornerback. Three things that Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles values a lot, as we saw in this past draft. As a sophomore in 2022, McKinstry intercepted one ball and deflected 13 pass breakups over the course of 12 games. He’s a superstar athlete that will be looking to breakout and make a name for himself this season.
He needs to work on getting beat so much downfield, as he gave up a lot of chunk plays in 2022, but this may be addressed this coming season. He’s still so raw and young so expect Saban and the rest of the Alabama staff to coach him up like they’ve done so many times.
With the looming free agency of CB Jaylon Johnson, Poles could target a big-name corner early to take his spot.
