5. Bears offensive lineman Ryan Bates

The Bills signed Bates to a four-year contract extension worth $17 million in 2022. The veteran offensive lineman was traded to Chicago last March. Poles had high hopes for Bates, but he spent much of the year off the field due to injury. The 27-year-old started in two games and appeared in three.
The Bears would save $4 million by cutting Bates and would not have a dead cap hit for his release. Bates didn’t play like a $4 million offensive lineman in 2024. However, Chicago could keep him around because of depth issues, especially if Teven Jenkins walks away in free agency.
